Primary Roles:         

  • Senior Out of School Care Leader
  • Coaching and Mentoring Staff to Help Support Children and Achieve Program Success

 Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Helping to coordinate and implementing all aspects of Quadra Village Community Childcare (Out of School Care) and ensuring excellence in the quality of care and programming.  This includes ensuring the Quadra Village Community Childcare program is in compliance with the BC Childcare Licensing Regulation.
  • Providing support and direct care to children, encouraging their intellectual, physical and emotional growth.
  • In conjunction with the Child and Family Programs Coordinator, acting as a liaison with parents, caregivers, schools and relevant agencies. 
  • Floor supervision related to Quadra Village Community Childcare staff, practicum students and volunteers.
  • Assisting with the planning and implementing and setting up of daily developmentally appropriate activities for program participants.
  • Maintaining fluency in the Quadra Village Community Childcare parent handbook and policy and procedures including provincial childcare licensing standards.
  • Identifying and supporting program participants who are having challenges and work with them on useful skills through modeling, mentoring, teachable moments and supportive conversations. This includes working with Quadra Village Community Childcare staff to implement strategies.
  • Planning and implementing referrals and initiatives to enhance the self-esteem of children, and create and implement useful strategies that are consistent with the Policy and Procedures.
  • Supporting the creation and provision of clear and accessible schedules for Quadra Village Community Childcare.
  • Ensuring staff are familiar and practiced with safety and emergency procedures.
  • Maintaining awareness of participant feedback and integrating constructive feedback in practice/programs. 
  • Ensuring that the program environments are clean, safe, suitable, caring, respectful and inclusive and collaborating with staff to accomplish this.
  • Responding to general inquiries regarding Downtown Blanshard Advisory Committee (DBAC)/Quadra Village Community Centre (QVCC) and sharing in the work of operating and maintaining a respectful, inclusive, functional  and useful community centre.
  • To be familiar with and implement the QVCC/DBAC policies, procedures and practices.
  • To ensure the maintenance and tabulation of attendance and statistics regarding Out of School Care.
  •  To make regular written and verbal reports as required by The Child and Family Programs Coordinator and the Policy and Procedures of Quadra Village Community Childcare.
  • Transport children as appropriate and ensure that applicable log books are kept and the vehicle is clean and well maintained.
  • Perform other related duties when required and approved by the Child and Family Programs Coordinator and/or Executive Director.


  • High School graduate and post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (e.g. Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Early Childcare) and/or significant training in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Early Childcare or Equivalent).
  • At least 20 hours of training in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate, Food Safe and Class 4 Driver’s Licence (Preferred).
  • Minimum two years’ experience supervising, facilitating activities and working with children 5-12 years of age with a wide range of developmental needs and challenges.
  • Minimum 1 year relevant experience working directly with school aged children 4 to 12.
  • Minimum 6 months staff supervision experience.
  • Effective with basic computer applications (such as word processing, spreadsheets and internet usage), record keeping skills (for reporting, human resources and marketing) and organization and planning skills. 
  • Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Checkand all Childcare Licensing Requirements.

 Hours of Work:        

20 hours a week plus hours for additional school closure days in School District 61, with exception to statutory holidays and planned program closures (usually the week of Christmas). 
Before school and after school times are the main hours for this position.

 *On-call for staff illness and other emergency shift coverage

 Wage and Benefits:

$17.20 an hour plus 3 weeks pro rated vacation per year (on completion of probation period).
