Community Engagement Facilitator

*Primary focus on Healthy Community Resources

Reports to: Youth Programs Coordinator

Role: Facilitate, plan and implement all aspects of Quadra Village Community Centre’s Youth Programs (Healthy Community Resources, Drop In, youth events and initiatives) in conjunction with the Youth Programs Coordinator.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead facilitation of all aspects of the following Launch Pad Programs: Drop In, Healthy Community Resources, youth events and initiatives.
  • Approach project work utilizing community development, asset building, youth engagement and other best practice strategies.
  • Facilitate life and social skills development (eg: pro social behavior, communication and life skills), individual action plans, employability enhancement and self-esteem development for youth.
  • Assist youth and community members with life issues and provide support referrals and system navigation as necessary. 
  • Identify and support young persons and community members who are having serious social problems and work with them on useful skills through mentoring, teachable moments and activities
  • Assist in collaboration with community, service providers, businesses, service clubs, community groups and community events to provide and sustain meaningful opportunities for youth
  • Ensure maintenance and tabulation of attendance and statistics regarding youth drop-in, Heathy Community Resources, special event and other Youth programs.
  • Write all quarterly reports required for your program
  • Assist in the day to day operations of the Quadra Village Community Centre.
  • Respond to general inquiries regarding Quadra Village Community Centre, and to share in the work of maintaining a responsive and inclusive community centre. 
  • Be familiar with and implement Quadra Village Community Centre (Downtown Blanshard Advisory Committee’s) policies, procedures and practices.  As well as the Youth Programs Handbook and the Youth Programs Training Manual.
  • Perform other related duties when required and approved by the Youth Programs Coordinator or Executive Director.
  • Engage as needed in the Youth Program Quality Initiative and attend learning community meetings and trainings as directed by the Youth Programs Coordinator
  • Ensure the Youth Centre and other program spaces are suitable, clean and safe for the operation of youth and family programs.
  • Be familiar with and implement the work plan connected to your program
  • Foster a connection to key family members, youth supports and other assets that can help with a youth’s life success.
  • Ensure that ideas and plans are youth driven and empower youth and create opportunities for youth to lead and reflect each session


Launch Pad Program Descriptions

Drop In

  • Encourage, lead, facilitate and supervise the meaningful participation of youth in at drop-in and ensure that the program environment is interactive, respectful, fair and welcoming.
  • Plan and implement structured activities during drop in hours
  • Be familiar with opening and closing procedures
  • Plan, promote, publicize and evaluate drop-in

Healthy Community Resource Services:

  • Lead and facilitate a monthly tea/café/workshop series with speakers and activity programming to engage tenants in community resources involving recreation and health, environment, employment, arts, food security and community building at Evergreen Terrace and Hampton House
  • Liaison with BC Housing food security and garden programming such as Livegreen
  • Liaison with BC Housing Health Services & Tenant Support Worker as needed
  • Ensure that all common spaces used by program staff and volunteers are thoroughly cleaned and reorganized after each activity
  • Develop an annual work/program plan for each site at the beginning of each year, specific to building demographics and needs, in collaboration with BC Housing
  • Provide an on-site advance program schedule to all tenants and post the document in communal areas of the development
  • Support tenant participation in decision-making by hosting regular tenant planning meetings Report quarterly using BC Housing report template
  • Annual reporting with developmental evaluation related to collaboration successes, upcoming opportunities, tenant participation highlights, identify stories and take photographs for BC Housing Communications;
  • Support collecting testimonial and photo releases and connecting with tenants
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with community-based services
  • Work collaboratively with existing programs on site which may provide outreach services, as well as any other BC Housing programs provided onsite including the People, Plants and Homes



  • Post-secondary degree in Child and Youth Care or a relevant discipline (e.g. Social Work, Community Development, or comparable degree) or working towards.  Minimum two years’ experience in group facilitation, community development work, outreach work, system navigation and experience working with high risk youth and families.
  • Preference to candidates with two or more years’ experience working with high risk youth in a community centre setting, food industry experience with knowledge/awareness of First Nations populations, diverse cultures, Class 4 license and YPQI training
  • Criminal Record Check is required

Hours of Work:

4 hours per week Fridays 1-5pm. Many of the hours required for this position consist of late afternoons, evenings and weekends.  There is also the ability to collaborate about the ultimate work schedule chosen and provide flexibility.  Except for drop-in hours which are Thursdays and Fridays 5-8pm


The term of this position is Sept 2018-March 2019.  The hope is to have this as an ongoing program.  All program terms dependent on funding.  Hours per week will be determined by project funding levels.  Position and hours may change due to funding.

Salary and Benefits:

$20/hr for the Healthy Community Resources

$16/hr for Casual Drop-in Worker
