We are looking for a dynamic Camp Leader to join our caring and committed community centre team and help lead Camptastiq this summer!

Camp Leader

Context, Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Camp Coordinator and community centre staff to plan & implement an inclusive day camp program for inner city children 5-12 years from a wide range of cultures (most notably nearby urban aboriginal and newcomer youth);help plan and provide fun summer experiences and create awesome memories for neighborhood kids.
  • Facilitate activities such as games, arts, crafts, tours & field trips to local sites, beaches, parks and water parks;
  • Direct, supervise and support day camp volunteers on a daily basis;
  • Help Camp Coordinator track  attendance;
  • Help Camp Coordinator evaluate the Camp program.;
  • Facilitate positive role modeling, boundary setting, crisis manangement, fostering cooperation and sharing, self-esteem building, inclusiveness and pride in diversity.

A significant number of children and youth attending the camp will be coming from personal and/or family situations that include challenges  such as  disabilities, poverty, family violence, addiction, mental illness, FASD, impulse control and borderline parental availability, capacity and role modelling. This position would be great for someone who  finds meaning in working with kids who face barriers.

Certification

  • Food Safe
  • Class 4 Driver’s Licence (Preferred) (Completed by June 26)
  • First Aid and CPR

Education Level

  • Post secondary student in one of the following fields of study (Canada Summer Jobs position) :
  • Education, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Social Work, Phys. Ed., Recreation Studies with coursework in areas such as child development, developmentally appropriate activities, behavior management, group facilitation and program delivery

Experience

  • Experience working in and facilitating summer camp, school aged child care and recreation programs or equivalents in a role with significant responsibility. Demonstrated knowledge and experience re: child development, developmentally appropriate activities, behavior management, group facilitation and program delivery

Term and Hours

  • Position starts mid June and ends August 31, 2018. The 35-40 hours a week are daytime, based on daycamp hours Monday through Friday each week.

Compensation

  • $15.00 an hour
