Building Attendant

Reports To:   Facilities Lead

Role: Provides a safe and secure space, while assisting user groups for the Centre and Neighbourhood Gym. Completes administrative tasks involving the facilities. Completes cleaning and maintenance tasks for both locations. Attendant shall be friendly and approachable to all community members and user groups, and shall commit themselves to the basic principles of community support                                                                                                                                                                 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the safety and security of the Centre, Gym and all participants during assigned shifts in the evenings and on weekends
  • Provides access to user groups, facilitating an overview and brief orientation (generally a reminder) of the rented space
  • Reviews rental agreement and procedures with user groups
  • May assist with set-up, such as access to tables and chairs, movement of existing furniture, sign-out and set-up of media equipment
  • Monitors the space for safety or potential hazards, corrects as able and reports any concerns
  • May assist with clean up, take down and storing of tables and chairs, removes garbage, replaces furniture or equipment
  • Secures and arms the building after participant departure
  • Assists in the administrative tasks related to user groups and the facilities such as responding to email inquiries, scheduling and booking, invoicing and providing receipts for payment, and answering questions about rentals, programs and the agency
  • Performs building upkeep tasks such as cleaning programs spaces and tools, organizing resources, and small handyman jobs in the interior and exterior of the buildings
  • To be familiar with and implement QVCC’s policies, procedures and practices
  • Other related duties as required


  • Demonstrated skills in general office duties such as filing and clerical procedures, skilled typing and document/report preparation, knowledge of a range of computer application.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to work with a diverse population with sensitivity and commitment to service
  • Good physical health is required for movement of furniture or equipment.

Education, Experience and Training:

  • High school graduate and relevant post-secondary education or training, such as facility maintenance, administrative assistance
  • First Aid, CPR and AED training

Remuneration: $16.75 per hour

Time Commitment: Flexible position would consist of 2, 3 hour shifts per week. Additional shifts of varying lengths available according to rental needs. Minimum of 6 hours per week.
