Job Title:  Big Sibs, Little Sibs Project Coordinator

Reports to:  Youth Programs Coordinator, Quadra Village Community Centre (QVCC)

Role:  Coordinate and implement all aspects of Big Sibs, Little Sibs (BSLS) Project

The purpose of BSLS is to connect young trans, non-binary and Two-Spirit people with adult mentors in their communities to:

  • To develop positive relationships between people who have similar lived experiences
  • To foster community connection, social belonging, and foster access to knowledge about TGNC2S related experiences, resources, and services
  • Relationships

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide coordination and facilitation of the Big Sibs, Little Sibs Project
  • Build a sense of team amongst steering committee members and other community partners
  • Co-Create Training guide and polices for Mentors of the BSLS Project
  • Organize and facilitate the BSLS working group meetings
  • Work collaboratively with funders and other community partners
  • Schedule BSLS meetings and meetings with Trans Care BC
  • Create BSLS agendas, meeting minutes, interview questions, reference check questions
  • Ensure BSLS stays on budget and seek out funding for BSLS through community grants and other fundraising opportunities
  • Ensure expense claims are accurate and follow QVCC policies
  • Approach work utilizing community development, asset building, community engagement and other best practice strategies
  • Respond to general inquiries regarding BSLS and share in the work of maintaining an inclusive community network
  • Facilitate BSLS mentor trainings and seek out community trainings with community partners ensuring quality learning and best practices
  • Write year end reports for all grants as needed
  • Make regular verbal reports as required by the BSLS working group, Trans Care BC and QVCC Youth Programs Coordinator
  • Collaborate with the BSLS working group on project/proposal development and mentor training workshops
  • Promote and share BSLS through schools, child and youth mental health, social media, YSPN google group, community centre’s and word of mouth
  • Project evaluation, create participant survey, collect and present results
  • Mentor and youth recruitment and retention
  • Support mentors and youth participants on a regular basis
  • Work closely with the Youth Programs Coordinator at QVCC


  • Relevant and lived experience as a trans, non-binary or two spirited person who has worked with youth
  • Experience in group facilitation, community development work, outreach work, system navigation and experience working with queer and trans youth.
  • Criminal Record Check and First Aid are required.
  • Post-secondary degree or working towards in Child and Youth Care or a relevant discipline (e.g. Social Work, Community Development or comparable degree).
  • Preference will be given to those who identify as trans, non-binary or two-spirited person


Hours of Work:

This is a contract position from Feb 2018 to Oct 2018.  The contract is based on several deliverables.  There is the ability to collaborate about the ultimate work schedule chosen and provide flexibility.


Salary and Benefits:

$4000.00 per contract agreement
