Assistant Camp Coordinator

We are looking for a dynamic Assistant Camp Coordinator to join our caring and committed community centre team and lead Camptastiq this summer!

Assistant Camp Coordinator

Context, Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Camp Coordinator and community centre staff to plan & implement an inclusive day camp program for inner city children 5-12 years from a wide range of cultures (most notably nearby urban aboriginal and newcomer youth);
  • A significant number of children and youth attending the camp will be coming from personal and/or family situations that include challenges  such as  disabilities, poverty, family violence, addiction, mental illness, FASD, impulse control and borderline parental availability, capacity and role modelling;
  • Facilitate activities such as games, arts, crafts, tours & field trips to local sites, beaches & parks;
  • Direct, supervise and support day camp volunteers on a daily basis;
  • Help Camp Coordinator manage promotion & program information; organize registration;
  • Help Camp Coordinator track fees, expenses & attendance;
  • Help Camp Coordinator evaluate the Camp program.;
  • Facilitate positive role modeling, boundary setting, crisis manangement, fostering cooperation and sharing, self-esteem building, inclusiveness and pride in diversity.

Certification

  • Food Safe
  • Class 4 Driver’s Licence (Preferred) (Completed by June 26)
  • First Aid and CPR

Education Level

  • Post secondary student in one of the following fields of study (Canada Summer Jobs position) :
  • Education, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, Social Work, Phys. Ed., Recreation Studies with coursework in areas such as child development, developmentally appropriate activities, behavior management, group facilitation and program delivery

Experience

  • Experience working in and facilitating summer camp, school aged child care and recreation programs or equivalents in a role with significant responsibility. Demonstrated knowledge and experience re: child development, developmentally appropriate activities, behavior management, group facilitation and program delivery

Term and Hours

  • Position starts mid June and ends September 1, 2017. The 37.5 hours a week are daytime, based on daycamp hours Monday through Friday each week.

Compensation

  • $14.45 an hour
